TGaS® Advisors Named As Finalist In 2008 American Business Awards
6th annual Stevie® Awards will be presented on June 12 in New York City
East Norriton, Penn., May 14, 2008 — TGaS® Advisors (www.tgas.com), the only comprehensive benchmarking company focused on pharmaceutical commercial operations, was named a Finalist today in the Best Management Team category in The 2008 American Business Awards. The management advisory firm’s client roster includes the majority of the top 50 pharmaceutical companies with operations in the U.S.
Hailed as “the business world’s own Oscars” (New York Post , April 27, 2005), The American Business Awards are the only national, all-encompassing awards program honoring great performances in business.
Stevie Award winners will be announced during the annual gala on Thursday, June 12 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. More than 600 executives from across the U.S.A. are expected to attend. The ceremonies will be broadcast on radio nationwide by the Business TalkRadio Network and hosted by Liz Claman of FOX Business Network.
More than 2,600 entries from companies of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted for consideration in more than 40 categories, including Best Overall Company, Best Executive, Best New Product or Service, Best Corporate Social Responsibility Program, and new categories including Best Management Team and Best Corporate Environmental Responsibility Program. The awards are known as the “Stevies” from the name “Stephen,” derived from the Greek for ‘crowned.’
The TGaS Advisors Management Team was nominated for their approach to managing the company’s exponential growth, a response to the firm’s unique concept of creating collaborative peer-sets and providing confidential fact-based answers to the question, “How do other pharmaceutical companies do ‘it’?®” In 2007 alone, revenues grew by more than 50 percent, the number of employees more than doubled and the client roster grew by 75 percent. Most employees are 20-year industry veterans, coming to TGaS Advisors from such companies as Wyeth, Roche Pharmaceuticals, Schering-Plough, King Pharmaceuticals, Abbott Laboratories, Yamanouchi (Astellas), IMS Health and SimStar.
Fostering collaboration among TGaS Advisors clients led naturally to mirroring this collaborative peer-to-peer ethos among employees. Founder and Managing Partner Stephen E. Gerard (no relation to the “Stevies”) and his senior management team have articulated four principles for employees: 1) connectedness, giving everyone information and a stake in the company’s success; 2) the autonomy to make decisions; 3) accountability for those decisions; and 4) opportunities to gain competence, learn and grow.
Gerard congratulated the management team for achieving finalist status: “We introduced a radically new —outside-in— approach to the industry — collaborative peer-set benchmarking — and succeeded because of a team dedicated to hard work, integrity, devotion to clients and caring respect for each other.”
Jim Mercante, TGaS Advisors Partner, celebrated the team’s ability to work together: “Our goal is to encourage our employees— natural curiosity and a passion for learning, along with a deep mutual respect. This kind of character is a deliberate choice in new hires, as critical as their technical skills.”
Members of the Awards’ Board of Distinguished Judges & Advisors and their staffs will select Stevie Award winners from among Finalists in final judging during the week of May 19. Finalists were chosen by business professionals nationwide during preliminary judging in April through early May.
“ABA entries grew more than 30% this year, so being named a Finalist is more of an accomplishment than ever before,” said Michael Gallagher, founder and president of The Stevie Awards. “It means that independent business executives have agreed that the nominee is worthy of national recognition. We congratulate all of the Finalists on their achievement and wish them well in the competition.”
